A Sad Day for America

I began my European excursion an odd way yesterday, watching the US national soccer team in Las Vegas. During my layover there the team battled Belgium into extra time, but unfortunately those "damned Belgian bastards" (Month Python) got the best of us. During the game, I talked with a gentleman from England, a Tottenham Hotspur and US national team supporter, who knew everything about every player in the game and had some interesting stories and opinions. We talked for a while about futbol and England, until the plane arrived and it was time to find out for myself what he was talking about.

And with that, I took my last step on US soil for a while as I boarded the Virgin flight to Gatwick. I could tell immediately this flight was going to London as all the attendants spoke in great English accents. A couple of the women also had big bun hairdos which I guess is a style here. There were a couple of bachelorette parties on the plane heading back home from Vegas and the two guys next to me were traveling back to Paris after a trip to the West Coast. I seemed to be one of the few American travelers at the beginning my trip, but I am so ready and excited for it.

So now the US has lost its soccer team for another 4 years and me for another 8 weeks, two devastating blows. But I am so excited for this new culture and experience. Bring on England!
